InvestmentINV002: Small and Medium Size Enterprise Growth and Development in the Mekong Region PROFILE

The project aimed to assist the development of an enabling environment for private enterprise growth and to provide practical assistance to SMEs in the area of (I) access to capital; (ii) management and staff training; (iii) business development, and (iv) acess to maket information. The project has two principal areas of activity; the first, Company Advisory Services is designed to assist entrepreneurs translate viable project ideas into sound and bankable business plans, The second area, Business Support Services Program is designed to improve the environment for private enterprises by increasing the availability of high quality and affordable business support services for SMEs, and by seeking to enhance the policy and regulatory environment for private business.

InvestmentINV003: Mekong Equity Fund PROFILE

The 10-year Fund has a target capitalization of US$20-25 million. Investors will include ADB, other development finance institutions and private investors. ADB will invest up to US$5 million, or 25% of the equity capital in the Fund. This is a facility to provide long-term equity support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The Fund will identify sectors and industries for investment in each of the three countries, Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam. It will invest in enterprises with strong growth potential, export orientation and capable management. It targets those able to generate new and sustainable employment, promote an environment that fosters economic growth, and forge regional cooperation in the GMS. The Fund will maintain a diversified investment portfolio that addresses both commercial and development needs.

ADB: US$5 million, remaining balance will be sourced from other development financing institutions
