Strategic Environmental Framework

Objectives

The goal of subregional cooperation in the environment is to promote sustainable management of the subregion's resources in order to reverse earlier degradation and mitigate adverse environmental impacts from new development. The ultimate goal is to improve the state of the environment, upgrade people's living standards, and reduce poverty.

Participating Countries

Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Viet Nam for loan projects; six GMS countries for technical assistance

Programs and Projects

Three major SEF flagship project components follow from these objectives:

  • Group 1 programs and projects promote the development of methods, tools, databases, and indicators to improve environmental performance assessment and monitoring;
  • Group 2 programs and projects work on building effective institutions for governing the environment and natural resource sectors, and
  • Group 3 programs and projects promote community-based livelihood and resource management activities, particularly in degraded areas.
