Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT)
Updated: 16 November 2007

The Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) currently consists of 14 provinces of Southern Thailand, eight states of Peninsular Malaysia, and the island of Sumatra in Indonesia (consisting of 10 provinces). Southern Thailand and Northern Malaysia share a land border, which are separated from Sumatra only by the narrow Straits of Melaka.

The IMT-GT subregion is a classic growth triangle, characterized by many economic complementarities, geographical proximity, and close historical, cultural and linguistic ties. This area has large amounts of land, rich natural resources, abundant labor and a sizeable internal market, which gives it a vast potential for development.
