These case studies feature ADB projects with impacts on indigenous peoples and the different strategies employed by each one in order to comply with ADB's Policy on Indigenous Peoples.

The policy ensures that the ADB interventions affecting IP are

  • consistent with their needs and aspirations
  • compatible with their culture and socioeconomic indicators
  • conceived, planned and implemented with their informed participation
  • equitable in terms of development efforts and impact
  • not imposing the negative effects of development without appropriate and acceptable compensation.
