Role playing on Regional Cooperation

Students from the Presidential Academy for Governance engaged in a role-playing session to discuss issues surrounding regional integration in Central Asia. The video documentary "Caravan of Dreams" was shown after the discussions and presentations.

Workshop on Improvement of Water Sector Management

A set of technical assistance project recommendations for institutional strengthening of the Committee for Water Resources was discussed at a workshop in Astana, Kazakhstan. ADB President visits Kazakhstan

ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda concluded his eight-day Central Asia visit in Kazakhstan on 12 November. He met with Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Prime Minister Daniyal Akhmetov, and Finance Minister and ADB Governor for Kazakhstan Arman Dunayev.

Government Steps up Efforts to Strengthen Implementation of State Water Sector Programs

The Kazakhstan government announced two technical assistance (TA) projects to strengthen institutional capacity and implementation of the national drinking water program. Kazuhiko Higuchi, Country Director, Kazakhstan Resident Mission and the Ambassador of Japan delivered statements along with senior Government officials. ADB Executive Director Discusses Development Partnership with Kazakhstan

NGO Consultation Meeting

Kazuhiko Higuchi, Country Director, KARM, met with various NGOs to obtain insights on priority developmental needs of Kazakhstan. The meeting is part of the ongoing process of updating ADB's Country Strategy and Program for 2006-2008. Key NGO stakeholders also shared their views on strengthening interaction with ADB and identified possible areas of collaboration.

Seminar on the use of consulting services convened in Astana

Thirty-five (35) participants from government agencies of ADB-assisted projects attended a seminar on the use of consulting services. The seminar updated the participants on procedures on selecting consultants. Aidar Arifkhanov (center), Kazakhstan Finance Vice Minister, opened the seminar. Tatiana Simonova (right), KARM Project Implementation Officer, delivered welcome remarks. COSO's Gregory London (left) was the resource speaker. A similar workshop was held in Kazakhstan back in 2003.

KARM: Visit of Executive Director Marita Magpili-Jimenez to Kazakhstan

ADB Executive Director for Kazakhstan Marita Magpili-Jimenez visited Kazakhstan on 21-22 April to discuss upcoming Annual Meeting with ADB Governor (Minister of Finance). She also met with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Environmental Protection, Minister of Labor and Social Protection, and other senior officials to exchange views on ADB's role in development of Kazakhstan. Ms. Magpili-Jimenez also held meetings with NGO representatives and visited ADB's education project.

ADB and Kazakhstan strengthen partnership in private sector

ADB Vice-President Liqun Jin held discussions on enhancing ADB’s role in Kazakhstan’s private sector development with Kazakhstan Government officials, including the Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister and ADB Governor, and Foreign Affairs Minister, as well as representatives of the private sector. Regional Workshop on Corporate Governance, 15-16 April, Almaty

Participants from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan attended the workshop, held on Friday and Saturday. It was part of a regional project for financial sector development and focused on strengthening corporate governance. Read the news release.

ADO 2005 Launch in Kazakhstan

KARM launched ADO 2005 at a press conference in Almaty on 6 April. It attracted keen attention from local media with a total of 32 representatives of major media agencies attending the event. KARM: Second National Workshop on Regional Rural Development

KARM Country Director Kazuhiko Higuchi delivered welcoming remarks during the Second National Workshop organised by the Committee on Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture under TA 4175-KAZ Regional Rural Development Project in Astana on 17 March. Presentations of the consultants and ADB were followed by discussions of the proposed investment project and improved rural planning instruments.
