8-9 December ADB Director Attends Plenary Session of Foreign Investment Council of Kazakhstan

ADB Director S. Chander visited Kazakhstan to participate in the 16th Plenary Session of the Foreign Investment Council of Kazakhstan that took place in Astana on 9 December on behalf of VP Liqun Jin. Mr. Chander gave a speech on education at the plenary session and met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Danial Ahmetov to discuss the course of collaboration between ADB and Kazakhstan.

16 November Partnership Launched to Combat Land Degradation in Central Asia

A $1.4 billion program which aims to restore, maintain and enhance the productivity of degraded land launched in five Central Asian countries. The press conference devoted to the launch of program in Kazakhstan held in Almaty on 16 November 2006. Read the news release.

11 October ADB Kazakhstan Resident Mission Country Director Speaks on Private Sector Infrastructure

Stephen Wermert, Country Director, Kazakhstan Resident Mission, spoke at the Kazakh-Finish Business Forum organized by Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce. The forum discussed bilateral relationships between Finland and Kazakhstan. Mr. Wermert presented ADB's private sector operations, public-private-partnership projects and strategic vision of doing business in Kazakhstan.

11-13 October CAREC Strengthens Customs Cooperation

The Customs Cooperation Committee (CCC) held its 5th meeting on 11-13 Oct in Astana to promote regional trade facilitation initiatives througt coordinated customs reforms and modernization efforts among member countries of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program . Customs administration heads of CAREC member countries participated in the meeting. Mr. Askar Shakirov, Chairman, Customs Control Agency and Ms. Noy Siackachanh, Director, ADB Central and West Asia Department, gave the welcome address.

12-13 June Kazakhstan hosted Regional Conference on Avian Influenza Control

Asia's Policymakers found an opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation on the prevention and control of avian flu during the CA Regional Conference on Avian Influenza Control and Human Influenza Pandemic Preparedness and Response . The Conference was cosponsored by Center for Disease Control and Prevention, USAID, EU, UN Agencies UNICEF and World Bank.

9 June Kazakhstan Joins Foreign Investors Council in Kazakhstan

ADB has become a member of Foreign Investors Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. ADB has been involved in one of several working groups within the Council that deals with a wide range of issues affecting daily operations of foreign investors in the country. Stephen Wermert, ADB Kazakhstan Resident Mission Country Director, represented ADB at the 15th Plenary Session of the Council.
