On 10 May in Astana, ADB concluded its series of workshops across the Central Asian region for government officials to review the training needs under Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC). During the workshop, participants shared their views on priority areas for capacity building and training needs survey. |

On 28 March - 3 April, ADB undertook a review mission under Rural Area Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Project. During the mission, ADB and Committee for Water Resources (the executing agency for this project) agreed on a time-bound work plan firmly aimed to improve and speed up implementation process. |

ADB Executive Director Sibtain Fazal Halim visited Kazakhstan on 9-14 March for annual consultation meetings with senior government officials and private sector clients. During his visit, Mr. Halim also visited a site facility under one of the proposed private sector projects. |

On 28 February 2007, Stephen Wermert, Country Director, Kazakhstan Resident Mission, attended the extended meeting in the Parliament of Kazakhstan during which President Nursultan Nazarbaev made his annual address to the people of Kazakhstan "Kazakhstan in a new world." The President outlined medium-term Government priorities as follows: (i) greater integration into global economy through WTO accession and increase of the country's competitiveness; (ii) economic diversification based on infrastructure development; (iii) social development; (iv) human resource development; (v) administrative reforms and corporate governance; and (vi) strengthening regional cooperation and economic integration. |
