Communities and Networks of Practice

Networks and Partnerships

This section contains the linkages that ADB fosters to harness knowledge from its operations and partners and promote knowledge management inside and outside of ADB.

Communities of
Practice

These are groups of like-minded, interacting people who filter, amplify, invest and provide, convene, build, and learn and facilitate to ensure more effective creation and sharing of knowledge in their domain.

ADB supports 2 types of communities of practice:

  • Internal: members consist of ADB staff. They are further grouped into formal, known as sector and thematic committees, and informal networks.
  • External: members come from ADB's partner countries and institutions.

Knowledge
Hubs

The hubs are centers of excellence designed to create or capture new knowledge and customize them to meet specific local needs. They promote exchange of knowledge and information within the region, and support the creation of a pool of experts on areas operationally relevant to ADB.

In 2006, ADB established knowledge hubs on these critical topics:

  • Clean energy
  • Climate change
  • Public finance
  • Public-private partnership in infrastructure
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle
  • Sustainable development
  • Regional trade and investment cooperation and integration
