Assisting in Mobilizing Resources Effectively

In line with the emerging global partnership agenda to support the MDGs, ADB will work closely with other development partners to complement and build on one another's strengths. ADB is determined to play a meaningful role in this emerging global partnership.

ADB also seeks to develop, in partnership with bilateral sources and private foundations, joint financing mechanisms, such as trust funds, to better target poverty interventions and to support the MDGs. Examples of grant funds established for this purpose are the Poverty Reduction Cooperation Fund and the Gender Development Cooperation Fund. The Water for Asian Cities Programme is an example of a program that has benefitted from collaborative effort between ADB and UN-HABITAT in addressing the MDG of ensuring environmental sustainability.

ADB co-sponsored with PARIS21 (Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century) the High-Level Forum on Statistical Capacity Building for ASEAN Countries in November 2002. The data requirements for the MDGs and related issues were discussed in this forum. ADB also provided inputs to the preparation of the joint UNESCAP/UNDP report, "Promoting the Millennium Development Goals in Asia and the Pacific: Meeting the Challenges of Poverty Reduction".
