Third International Roundtable on MfDRA critical milestone for aid effectivenessMore than 400 participants representing developing countries, donors, civil society, and the private sector attended the Third International Roundtable on Managing for Development Results (MfDR), held from 5 to 8 February 2007 in Hanoi, Viet Nam. Building on the success of the Second Roundtable on MfDR (Marrakech, 2004) and the 2005 High-Level Forum that endorsed the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, the event focused on building countries’ capacity to manage for results and develop country-level and regional action plans. It was a critical milestone in the journey to achieve the Paris Declaration Partnership Commitments. President Haruhiko Kuroda headed the ADB delegation and led the wrap up of Roundtable discussions at the closing session. ADB Vice President C. Lawrence Greenwood, Jr. facilitated the important planning session by participants from the Asia Pacific region, including ADB's developing member countries (DMCs). Participating countries and institutions showcased their experiences in MfDR through posters that were displayed at a Results Marketplace during the Roundtable. Country representatives also prepared country action plans on MfDR, which were synthesized into an action plan for each region. Two MfDR publications were also discussed at the event: the 2006 edition the Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) Common Performance Assessment System (COMPAS) and the MfDR Sourcebook, 2nd edition*. Key Themes and Conclusions
The event made important progress in a number of key areas, such as country-led development, mutual accountability, MfDR capacity assessment, and the fundamental importance of incentives for action. Emphasis was also placed on development challenges in Asia Pacific and Africa. See also:
