Results-based Country Partnership Strategy

ADB is enhancing the development impact of its Country Partnership Strategies (CPS)—introduced in August 2006 as part of the reform to enhance Country Strategy and Program (CSP) formulation—through the introduction and mainstreaming of the results-based CPS (RB-CPS). Specifically, the RB-CPS will

  • identify the outcomes that are expected to be achieved during the period covered by the RB-CPS;
  • provide a mechanism and indicators for monitoring the progress toward achievement of intended outcomes; and
  • allow necessary adjustment over time to improve the likelihood of achieving successful outcomes.

The RB-CPS is developed and implemented based on detailed discussions with the Government and other development partners.

Improving the quality of its RB-CPSs continues to be a priority for ADB. RB-CPS Guidelines were issued in February 2007. A practice note [ PDF: 99KB | 24 pages ] was circulated to staff in September 2005 as a supplement to the interim guidelines issued in January 2005. ADB also prepared the following reviews as a prelude to issuing detailed guidelines on the RB-CPS:
