ADB to Help Establish Organization for Tonle Sap Basin Management

MANILA, PHILIPPINES (22 January 2004) - ADB is helping to form an organization to carry out integrated basin planning and management in the Tonle Sap Basin, Cambodia, through a grant approved for US$135,000.

Besides designing the institutional framework, the TA will draw up a long-term roadmap for establishment and operation of the basin management organization.

The Tonle Sap is the most important inland wetland in Southeast Asia, supporting one of the world's most productive freshwater fisheries. The ecosystem is essential to the survival of many globally significant species.
