Invitation to Media

39th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank

Attention: Editors, Business and Financial Editors, Bureau Chiefs and Correspondents

India is one of Asia's most dynamic economies, and the thriving high-tech city of Hyderabad is one of the prime movers of this robust growth. Government leaders - including Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors - as well as civil society groups and journalists from around the world will gather in this vibrant city from Wednesday, 3 May, to Saturday, 6 May 2006, for the Thirty-Ninth Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The meeting will be held at the new Hyderabad International Convention Center (HICC), India's largest and South Asia's world-class convention center.

ADB is Asia's leading development institution and a center for knowledge in economics, development and regional integration. Because the annual meeting brings such a large number of member country officials together, it provides opportunities for consultations large and small, formal and informal.

Numerous seminars will be held in conjunction with the meeting which is designed to foster creative dialogue among the private sector, government delegates, non-governmental organizations and senior ADB staff. Some of Asia's best minds will be conducting seminars that will discuss the burgeoning information technology revolution, the challenges the region faces in banking, infrastructure development, energy, and in other areas. Opportunities presented by the integration of Asia will also be explored in depth by participants from more than 60 countries. More information on seminars is available at http://adb.org/AnnualMeeting/2006/seminars.asp

Media are cordially invited to cover the meeting and participate in all seminars. Invitations are sent by e-mail from February 2006. If you do not receive an invitation and would like to attend the meeting, please e-mail Omana Nair at onair@adb.org or Gilda Nanquil at gnanquil@adb.org and we will ensure that you receive an invitation.

Country presentations will be held from Wednesday, 3 May, to Saturday, 6 May. Other events that will interest journalists include the ASEAN+3 Finance Ministers' meeting, Open Forum on ADB-NGO Cooperation and Governors' seminar. A press briefing and luncheon will be held on 3 May.

Opening Session will take place at the HICC on Friday, 5 May 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Business Sessions will also be held at the HICC on Friday, 5May and Saturday, 6 May. The last Business Session will end at about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, 6 May, followed by a press conference with ADB President.
