4th Meeting of the SASEC ICT Working Group
MANILA, PHILIPPINES - The fourth meeting of the SASEC Information Communication Technology Working Group (ICTWG) will be held in New Delhi, India on 8-9 October 2007. Attending the meeting are secretaries and senior officials from the finance and ICT ministries of the four SASEC participating countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Nepal. The meeting is expected to discuss and finalize the project design of the SASEC Information Highway Project which aims at establishing regional information exchange including in-country gateways and cross border links; expand rural access to ICT through village networks; and establish a regional research and training center. The meeting will also finalize the various multilateral and bilateral agreements essential for project implementation. ADB is also expecting to finalize the draft loan and grant agreements and hold bilateral discussions on these following the meeting. SASEC was established by the Asian Development Bank in 2001 and aims at promoting the subregion’s economic cooperation initiatives in the following priority areas transport; tourism; trade, investment and private sector cooperation; energy and power; environment; and information and communications technology. The program is now on its third phase and is focused on implementing investment projects endorsed by the SASEC Working Groups and the SASEC Country Advisors. About ADB |
