MANILA, PHILIPPINES - ADB is from tomorrow hosting a forum exploring experiences with and innovative uses of knowledge for development.
Taking the theme - Building and Strengthening Knowledge Networks for Development - the two-day Knowledge Management for Development (KM4Dev) Forum 2007 will provide opportunities for individuals and organizations to create better human and virtual linkages and networks.
The event also provides a chance for representatives from ADB's developing member countries to talk with key representatives from public and private organizations in Asia, Europe, and United States on their lessons learned in undertaking knowledge management (KM).
"Information and knowledge play critical roles in improving people's incomes and living standards," says Daan Boom, ADB Principal Knowledge Management Specialist. "Given this need, the forum will examine how to create, transfer, and manage knowledge more effectively and efficiently."
KM4Dev will offer workshops to deepen understanding on various KM techniques, an open space meeting to create dialogue among participants and explore outcomes from the workshops, and poster sessions that will encourage participants to tell stories about their specific experiences.
The forum will also include two plenary sessions, with the first day focusing on presentations from private and public organizations, and the second day wrapping up key findings and recommendations.
The event opens with a keynote address on “Managing the Knowledge Trap” from Thomas Menkhoff, Professor at Singapore Management University.
The meeting is organized by ADB in association with the KM4Dev Community, an online community of international development practitioners interested in knowledge management and knowledge sharing issues and approaches.
