NGO and Civil Society Country Profiles

In 2005, ADB published a series of seven country profiles that provides an overview of the civil society context and details on ADB-CSO cooperation in these countries. View the civil society country profiles.

In 2004 ADB's Pacific Department worked with the NGO and Civil Society Center with a view to improving ADB-civil society organization collaboration in the Pacific and published ADB - NGO Relations in the Pacific: Issues and Options for Strengthening Engagement [ PDF: 262kb | 33 pages ]. The paper offers operational solutions to challenges ADB faced in its efforts to better engage the cooperation and resources of the CSO and NGO community in Pacific Developing Member Countries.

In 2002 the NGOC commissioned the NGO Strategy and Development of a Comprehensive Database of Development Focused NGOs [ PDF: 396kb | 45 pages ] to provide inputs for developing an NGO strategy and NGO database for ADB's Nepal Resident Mission (NRM). The NRM needed to prepare profiles of key NGOs working on ADB-assisted projects in Nepal and to understand the potential as well as challenges of working with NGOs.

In 1998 the NGOC completed a study which analyzes NGOs and civil society organizations in nine developing countries in Asia, and recommends ways to improve ADB cooperation with NGOs and CSOs. The study comprises a regional overview [ PDF: 307kb | 58pages ] and nine country-specific studies:
