The Building NGO-Private Sector Partnerships Against Poverty workshop recommended the creation of a network secretariat as a coordinating mechanism to encourage players from the private sector and NGO community to work together for poverty reduction.
Building on interest generated at the workshop, a Network* supporting NGO-private sector cooperation on sustainable development in Asia and Pacific was created. On 16 February 2005, the Network on NGO and Private Sector Cooperation for Sustainable Development was officially launched.
The Bangkok-based Kenan Institute Asia (KIAsia) was selected to be the network secretariat, charged with guiding the network and supporting development of NGO-private sector partnerships. Between 2005-2007, the secretariat shared information and case studies on NGO-business partnerships, generated interest in multi-sector cooperation, and provided reports on developments. GSK Bio and KIAsia financed the secretariat's operations for two years. Representatives of GSK Bio and ADB served as ex-oficio members of the network's advisory committee. For more details, contact the Secretariat Manager at thenetwork@kiasia.org.
In April 2007, with 573 members, the network spun off as a separate and independent entity. The network continues its operations, focusing on sharing information though the network's website and implementing programs under the Thailand Network chapter.
