NGO - Private Sector Partnerships
NGO - Private Sector PartnershipsADB promotes partnership between NGOs and private sector cooperation for poverty reduction. The NGOC, together with the GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals, organized a workshop on Building NGO-Private Sector Partnerships Against Poverty on March 2004 in Pattaya, Thailand. Building on momentum and interest generated at the workshop, a Network* supporting NGO-private sector cooperation on sustainable development in Asia and Pacific was created. The Bangkok-based Kenan Institute Asia (KIAsia) was selected as the network secretariat charged with guiding the network and supporting development of NGO-private sector partnerships. Between 2005-2007, the secretariat operated as a clearinghouse of information, shared case studies on NGO-business partnerships, generated interest in multisectoral cooperation, and provided regular reports on developments. GSK Bio and KIAsia financed the secretariat's operations for a two-year period. Representatives of both GSK Bio and ADB served as ex oficio members of the network's advisory committee. In April 2007, and with 573 members, the network spun off as a separate and independent entity. The network is continuing its operations, focusing on two sharing information though the network website, and implementing programs under the Thailand Network chapter.
