About the Pacific

The Asian Development Bank's 14 Pacific developing member countries (PDMCs) are small island states spread over about one-third of the earth's surface. They are highly diverse in terms of:

• land features and natural resources
• ethnicity
• economic performance
• progress toward achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

They also face common challenges in delivering sustained economic growth and human development, and in reducing poverty from small, narrowly focused economies.
