FAO Sustainable Development Department
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Sustainable Development Department promotes the use of improved participatory methods and tools that ensure the participation of all stakeholders, especially the rural poor, in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of policies, programs, and institutional measures. The Department maintains a website dedicated to participation in development.
The International Budget Project
The International Budget Project was formed within the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in 1997 to nurture the growth of civil society capacity to analyze and influence government budget processes, institutions, and outcomes. A large and growing number of civil society budget groups have taken up work to improve the transparency of their budget processes, as well as to open up avenues for participation. This website contains general information on budget transparency and participation, including introductory information on why groups have focused on this issue and how the IBP can help assist in this work. It also includes general resources in this area, and who to contact for further information.

This is a global, online space for sharing ideas about the participation of people in development, citizenship, governance, and rights. Participation.net welcomes researchers, practitioners, activists, educators, policy makers, and others from around the world to exchange views and resources.
Participation Research Centre
This facility at the Institute of Development Studies includes more than 6,000 documents, books, and videos. The collection consists mainly of unpublished practical information and includes research reports, training manuals, workshop reports, critical reflections, and newsletters from practitioners and networks. Abstracts of the documents can be searched on-line.
Toolkit Partnership
The Toolkit Partnership is a group of civil society and local government organizations from all over the world working together to promote participatory local governance.
The website offers information on tools which promote citizen participation, and provides a forum for discussion. It also stores case studies and other articles for further reference.
UN System Network on Rural Development and Food Security
Established in 1997, the UN System Network on Rural Development and Food Security is a global partnership approach towards tackling rural development challenges at the country level. The Network maintains a page of useful links to documentation on participation.
