Ratna Sahay
is currently Advisor and Alternate Senior Personnel Manager at the IMF's Research
Department. At present, the focus of her work is on macroeconomic policies, Fund
programs, and poverty issues. Ms. Sahay advises the Director of the Department
and the Economic Counselor of the Fund on policies pertaining to developing countries
and transition economies. She is responsible for promoting, co-ordinating and
conducting research on developing and transition economies. She is also the Department's
lead reviewer of papers on Fund policies and programs and on surveillance countries
(Russia, Ukraine, Pakistan, India, Turkey, and Malaysia). Ms. Sahay is Co-Editor
of IMF Staff Papers. She also coordinates the Department's weekly formal seminar
series, and organizes and participates in conferences related to developing countries
and transition economies sponsored by the Research Department. The areas of her
specialization include Transition Economies, Development Economics and International
Economics. She wrote and published papers on inflation, stabilization, exchange
rate regimes, growth, capital flows, dollarization, rent-seeking/fiscal policy,
fiscal federalism, privatization, international trade, contagion and real effects
of currency crises. Ms. Sahay obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from New York University
in 1990.
