2007 Orientation Program for DMC Officials
5-23 November 2007
ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines

Purpose

The orientation program will give DMC officials a better understanding of ADB's changing role in the Asia and Pacific region, and provide opportunities for participants to:

  • learn more about ADB policies, procedures, and activities in their countries
  • upgrade their skills in development planning and project management
  • meet and strengthen relationships with ADB staff and counterpart DMC officials

Objectives

At the end of the program, participants will have:

  • developed insight into ADB's strategic business agenda
  • learned about ADB's policies, procedures, and operations
  • honed skills in planning, managing, monitoring, and evaluating development activities
  • developed relations with ADB's regional department and resident mission staff
  • shared experiences and established relations with other DMC officials

Target Participants

Developing member country (DMC) officials

Regional departments may nominate a DMC official following these criteria:

  • from a DMC that borrows from ADB or is implementing ADB-financed projects and programs
  • generally be an official from the government, preferably from a planning agency or the ministry responsible for coordinating with multilateral development partners particularly with ADB (e.g., Ministry of Finance, Ministry for Economic Development, Ministry for International Cooperation, etc.). Non-government officials are also acceptable nominees provided they are nominated by the government where possible
  • from an agency that will benefit most in obtaining an in-depth understanding of ADB's role, development approach, policies and procedures, and if possible, should be currently interacting with ADB missions or could, in the future, be managing ADB-assisted projects and technical assistance in the DMC
  • must have working knowledge of English
