In the design phase (January - June 2005) of the Biodiversity Corridors Initiative, core partners of the GMS countries are the Asian Development Bank, the UNEP Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, the World Conservation Union (IUCN) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The BCI will seek active collaboration with state and non-state partners (NGOs, community groups, user associations, private sector) for implementing activities in the BCI pilot sites in order to bring about a synergy in funding and actions geared to establish operations of the biodiversity corridors in a sustainable manner.

Moreover, corporate partners will be sought to sponsor and adopt one or more of the biodiversity corridors that may have flagship species, or which may provide opportunities for carbon trading through Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

In addition to GMS country contributions, avenues will be explored to raise funding from public and private sources, in particular multilateral (Global Environment Facility - GEF) and bilateral donors in support of the BCI. Where support is currently being provided to a protected area(s) in a country program context, this will be integrated in the overall planning for establishment and management of priority biodiversity corridors in the respective countries.
