Regional Workshops

A series of workshops and seminars are being organized as part of the Joint Study to encourage dialogue among key government officials, the private sector, development partners and civil society groups about the effective and efficient provision of economic infrastructure.

  • First Workshop: 15-16 January 2004 at Manila, Philippines

Over 120 individuals including senior government officials from 10 countries as well as representatives from the private sector, academe, civil society and development agencies participated in the 2-day discussions that were intended to solicit suggestions regarding the issues to be focused on for the study.

  • Launch Seminar: 23 January 2004 at Tokyo, Japan

About 70 participants headed by top officials from ADB, JBIC and World Bank attended the formal launching of the Joint Study on Infrastructure Development in East Asia.

  • Second Workshop: 27-29 June 2004 at Bali, Indonesia

More than 100 participants from 9 countries among them senior government officials as well as representatives from the private sector, academe, civil society and development agencies participated in the discussions and provided feedback on the preliminary findings of the background papers being prepared for the study.

As the study takes shape, a key challenge will be to identify innovative financing mechanisms to meet the ever-increasing requirements for infrastructure investments, while at the same time providing appropriate incentives for vibrant infrastructure sectors to develop.
