Regional Workshops
A series of workshops and seminars are being organized as part of the Joint Study to encourage dialogue among key government officials, the private sector, development partners and civil society groups about the effective and efficient provision of economic infrastructure.

First
Workshop: 15-16 January 2004 at Manila, Philippines
Over 120 individuals including senior government officials from
10 countries as well as representatives from the private sector,
academe, civil society and development agencies participated
in the 2-day discussions that were intended to solicit suggestions
regarding the issues to be focused on for the study.

Launch
Seminar: 23 January 2004 at Tokyo, Japan
About 70 participants headed by top officials from ADB, JBIC
and World Bank attended the formal launching of the Joint Study
on Infrastructure Development in East Asia.

Second
Workshop: 27-29 June 2004 at Bali, Indonesia
More than 100 participants from 9 countries among them senior
government officials as well as representatives from the private
sector, academe, civil society and development agencies participated
in the discussions and provided feedback on the preliminary
findings of the background papers being prepared for the study.

As the study takes shape, a key challenge
will be to identify innovative financing mechanisms to meet
the ever-increasing requirements for infrastructure investments,
while at the same time providing appropriate incentives for
vibrant infrastructure sectors to develop.
