Training on Promoting Good Governance

LEAP provided the training course on Promoting Good Governance to 17 leaders from government, private sector, and civil society representing 13 PDMCs. The training was held in Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka, Fiji, from 18 to 20 October 2005. It focuses on the following themes:

  • What is good governance?
  • How is it promoted, managed, and sustained?
  • What are the leading/replicable practices?
  • Participants were senior officials, including 2 Chief Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, 3 assistant or deputy secretaries, 2 presidents of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and 1 president of non-government organizations' association. The training adopted adult learning techniques that engaged the participants in various types of activities and group dynamics. It used interactive learning tools-such as videos, case studies, role playing, and technology of participation-to surface issues on governance in the Pacific and to crystallize lessons on promoting sound development management and improving systems and processes. The lessons learned by the participants were substantiated into actions through a re-entry plan to promote good governance in their respective organizations and communities.

Going by the very positive response and feedback from the participants, the training course was a certified success.
