Event: Workshop on Tackling India’s Polluted Places

ADB and the Blacksmith Institute's Polluted Places Initiative is concerned with initiating clean-up/remediation activities in locations where human health is significantly affected by pollution.

The work that has been done under the ADB's PEP program includes an overview of more than 55 polluted sites that were put forward and reviewed by technical experts, followed by the development of Stakeholder Groups to address local priority problems in Gujarat, Jharkand and Uttar Pradesh. Specific interventions related to groundwater in Kanpur, hazardous sludge near Ahmedabad and planned remediation of pesticide contaminated land in Uttar Pradesh were also implemented.

Against the backdrop of all activities undertaken in India, the sub-project organized a workshop entitled “Tackling Polluted Places in India," held on 22 February 2007 at the Hotel Intercontinental, Nehru Place, in collaboration with ADB.
