Incorporating Coastal Livelihoods, Sustainable Fisheries in the Poverty Reduction Strategies in the Sulu Sulawesi Seas

Objectives
The project aims to improve the understanding of poverty-environment linkages in the subregion's fishery sector through the conduct of a series of investigative analyses, case studies and dialogues among stakeholders.

Poverty-Environment Linkage
The project aims to investigate the critical linkages among community coastal livelihoods, sustainable fisheries and poverty alleviation, which are rarely fully articulated in national development strategies or in the context of international aid for fisheries management, poverty alleviation and sustainable development.

Expected Outputs/Outcomes
  • Integration of sustainable fisheries in national development strategies and ADB's county partnerships and strategies
  • Three case studies identifying obstacles to mainstreaming sustainable fisheries in national development strategies including sets of recommendations for achieving integration
  • Three community consultations identifying issues associated with maintaining and improving coastal livelihoods through sustainable fisheries and coastal zone management

  • Conduct of consultation in 3 selected communities
  • Conduct of case studies on poverty-environment linkages in fisheries community
  • Subregional workshop to communicate and share case studies and lessons with regional stakeholders
