Poverty and Environment Program
Partnerships
ADB and the Poverty Environment PartnershipADB is a member of the Poverty Environment Partnership, an informal network of development agencies, established in September 2001, which seeks to improve the coordination of work on poverty reduction and the environment within the framework of internationally agreed principles and processes for sustainable development. ADB, through PEP, has agreed with the Partnership members to establish the Poverty Environment website in a neutral domain to support poverty-environment efforts globally. The website aims to collect and share knowledge and experience on poverty-environment linkages and good practices in responding to poverty-environment challenges and foster exchange and collaboration among poverty-environment stakeholders from Asia and other parts of the world. Cooperation with NGOsPEP recognizes the significant role of NGOs in the development process. NGOs serve as effective intermediaries to local communities to know and respond to their needs. NGOs use innovative approaches to development, help ensure projects are implemented as envisioned, nurture continuity in project work, advocate for increased transparency and good governance and give voice to marginalized groups. PEP welcomes experiences, lessons, and good practices in addressing environment and development challenges that NGOs would like to share. PEP also promotes NGOs involvement in the preparation and implementation of community-based projects. Currently, PEP has provided funding for 4 subprojects with NGOs as implementing agencies. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
