Objectives
The project aims to demonstrate successful sustainable natural resource management strategies for tsunami affected vulnerable ecosystems that can be replicated on a wider scale through the on-going North East Coastal Community Development Project 1 (NECCDEP) and other ADB tsunami-related assistance to Sri Lanka.
Poverty-Environment Linkage
The project will deal with the links between natural resource management and vulnerability of the poor by demonstrating the ecological and economic value of fragile ecosystems in the North and East coastal areas in Sri Lanka.

- Improved livelihood opportunities and state of natural resources in the tsunami affected areas
- Applied participatory approaches in natural resources management and livelihood strategies
- Set of criteria in identifying hotspots
- List of identified hotspots
- Publications on lessons learned and good practices based on pilot demonstrations
Major Components and Activities
- Establishment of criteria for, identification, and assessment of hotspots
- Formulation of habitat restoration strategies and appropriate livelihood development options
- Implementation of pilot activities on natural resources management and sustainable livelihood
- Documentation and dissemination of lessons learned from pilot activities to guide replication and adaptation by the NECCDEP and other similar projects
