Training Sessions

Three training sessions were held in 2001. Examples of international best practices in key priority items were used to demonstrate how other countries have addressed their road safety issues in various topic areas.

1st Training Session: 9-20 April 2001

• Traffic Regulations, Policing, and Enforcement
• Emergency Response and Contingency Planning
• Road Safety Education, Publicity, and Campaigns

2nd Training Session: 15-26 October 2001

• Driver Training, Testing, and Management
• Vehicle Testing, Inspection, and Management
• Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)

3rd Training Session: 12-23 November 2001

• Road Accident Analysis Systems
• Urban Traffic Planning and Management

The format for the training sessions included international consultants providing lectures on international best practices, supported by domestic consultants providing a perspective of local practices, combined with interactive workshop sessions. The lessons learned from each training session were used as inputs to help improve subsequent sessions.

About 82% of the participants assessed the training as "satisfactory," "good," or "excellent."
