Capacity Building to Combat Land DegradationThe Capacity Building to Combat Land Degradation Project is ADB's first project under the PRC-GEF Partnership. It will strengthen the enabling environment, and build implementation capacity, for future investment projects. It was approved by the GEF Council and ADB Board in June 2004, for $13.8 million by GEF ($7.7 million) and the Government counterpart funds; in addition, an ADB TA of $1 million and $0.2 million of ADB/Government counterpart funding has been provided, to support project implementation. The total package amounts to $15 million. The Capacity Building to Combat Land Degradation Project currently covers six Provinces/Regions with a combined population of approximately 120 million people. The current participating Provinces/Regions include; Shaanxi Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Gansu Province, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province.
