Strategies, Programs and, Plans

• The Western Development Strategy (WDS)

  In March 2000, the Government of PRC endorsed the Western Development Strategy to promote growth and development in western PRC. The strategy emphasizes two main objectives:

  • to reduce economic disparities between the western region and other regions
  • to ensure sustainable natural resources management.

  The Government has set up a Leading Group for Western Region Development under the State Council and has elaborated a policy statement for the development of the western region. Find additional information on the environmental aspects of the WDS here.
