Supporting Country-Driven Private Sector Development Strategies
Updated: 5 December 2005
Improving business conditions and increasing the contribution of the private sector to the economy is key to economic growth and poverty reduction. Throughout Asia and the Pacific, countries are articulating and refining strategies to more effectively promote private sector led growth.
In spite of these efforts, private sector development (PSD) has not always progressed as desired. Developing member countries (DMCs) have expressed challenges in the PSD process, including:
- lack of coordination across government
- difficulties in involving stakeholders
- goal congestion
- problems in prioritizing solutions to bottlenecks
- implementation
Responding to these challenges, the Asian Development Bank designed a Regional Technical Assistance Project to develop a good practice reference guide to address these issues raised. The guide will look beyond PSD strategies as technical documents and will address the entire process. It will examine how coordinating and managing this process, developing PSD strategy content, and implementation can be effective in accelerating reform by increasing accountability and focusing on results.
