Special Features

Geographical Focus

The water supply and sanitation coverage in the five participating provinces of Battambang, Kompong Chhnang, Kompong Thom, Pursat, and Siem Reap is lower than the national average. The Project is consistent with ADB's geographical priorities in Cambodia and will contribute to the accomplishment of the Tonle Sap Basin Strategy. In particular, the Project will adhere to two of the strategic principles of the strategy. First, it will place an accent on sustainable livelihoods by increasing physical, human, and social, and natural capital. Second, it will promote social justice by giving special priority to vulnerable groups and by supporting equal access for women.

Decentralization and Deconcentration

Subprojects will be pre-selected according to the national commune development planning process, which aims to devolve democratic decision-making to the local level

Support to Private Sector Participation

The Project will encourage private sector participation in rural water supply and sanitation. All civil works and the supply of equipment and materials will be awarded through competitive bidding to private companies
