Simplification/Harmonization of Customs Procedures

Harmonization of customs procedures is being achieved mainly through member countries' efforts to reform customs codes in line with the Revised Kyoto Convention. With support from the ADB, the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan adopted their new Customs Codes in July 2004 and November 2004, respectively.

ADB activities:

  • organizing forums to address common issues and distill lessons learned in the revision of Customs Codes;

  • providing training on customs-related WTO Agreement and the Revised Kyoto Convention so that the new Codes will be consistent with major international agreements and conventions; and

  • supporting bilateral consultations to achieve harmonization of customs procedures and documentation.

These activities have partly contributed to the member countries' efforts to join the WTO and accede to the Revised Kyoto Convention.
