TIR Customs Transit System: Experiences and Initiatives of CAREC Participating Countries

Promotion of regional transit trade is a priority area of the CAREC's Trade Facilitation Program. A viable transit arrangement is vital for countries in the region, as it will help turn geographical disadvantages such as land-locked nature of most member countries into advantages, transforming the region into a modern "silk road" or "land-bridge" connecting Asia with Europe for accelerated trade and economic growth.

This paper is an offshoot of the Forum on TIR Customs Transit System held in Shanghai, PRC on 19-21 October 2005. The paper aims to support PRC's accession to TIR Convention and effective implementation of TIR transit system in other CAREC participating countries.
