Regional Transit Development
Transit development stands as a key initiative because of the small-economy and land-locked nature facing most of the member countries.
Without effective transit systems that facilitate intra-regional trade and also help move goods in and out of the Region, several member countries risk being further marginalized and unable to take advantage of the increasingly global economy.
On the other hand, viable transit arrangements would help transform the Region into a modern "Silk Road" or "land-bridge" connecting East Asia with Europe.

- A Regional Seminar on the Development of Simplified Transit Systems was organized in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic on 21-23 February 2004 to review issues and constraints in the development of simplified transit systems and suggest measures in line with international best practices.
