Components

The CEP has five components to be implemented in three phases (2006–2008, 2009–2011, and 2012–2015):

  • Strategic Environmental Assessments in Economic Corridors – Identify and secure critical natural systems
  • Biodiversity Conservation Corridors – Restore and protect ecological integrity and reduce poverty within priority conservation landscapes
  • Environmental Performance Measurements – Apply national environmental performance indicators, develop regional indicators, and integrate environment objectives into national and subregional sustainable development planning
  • Regional Institutional Development – Build institutional capacity to implement the CEP and support the Working Group on Environment (WGE)
  • Sustainable Financing Mechanisms – Define and implement sustainable financing strategies and market mechanisms to conserve natural resources
