Public Policy Training Program (PPTP)
BackgroundADB accepted the administration of the Japan Fund for Public Policy Training (JFPPT) as a new trust fund in March 2004. The main goal of JFPPT is to assist developing member countries (DMCs) and their institutions to build their capacities for public policy training and education, with initial concentration on transition economies such as Viet Nam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia. The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) was appointed by the Government of Japan as JFPPT Administrator and, in this capacity, conducted some pilot training activities in Viet Nam. Read the 2004 JFPPT Annual Report. Following ADBI's preliminary work, the Government of Japan consulted with ADB and ADBI to modify arrangements for full-scale implementation of the training programs and their long-term sustainability. ADB's Board of Directors approved the modified implementation arrangements on 14 October 2005, under which ADB will implement JFPPT-financed training programs. Subsequently, the PPTP is designed as a regional technical assistance to support the full-scale implementation of training programs in Viet Nam and, from 2007 to begin preliminary work in Cambodia and Lao PDR. An Advisory Committee consisting of senior staff from key ministries and agencies will review and approve the courses and the general outline of the 2006 training program. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
