Development projects are designed to improve the lives of most people they affect. However, some projects will have a negative impact on some people - displacing their homes and/or communities, taking land, requiring them to change their profession. Such people must be assisted to a better quality of life than they had prior to the project; at worst they must be helped to regain their previous quality of life. Resettlement explains ADB's policy for assisting such people, and what assistance they, their organizations, and their governments can expect from ADB projects.
