Fragile Promise
The Asian and Pacific region is home to more than 400 million extremely poor children. About 150 million of these children are working. Forced to drop out of school at an early age, they are barely literate and have to grub for a meager living. Undernourished, exposed to hazardous conditions and prone to frequent illness, these children have lost their childhood. What promise does the new millennium hold for Asia's vast army of child laborers? One answer can be found in southern India where working children have organized a union to fight for their rights and welfare. This is the story of children changing their lives for the better, children for whom the future holds a fragile promise. This video is available in PAL and NTSC format. Fragile Promise is part of the ADB Children of Asia Video Series, which won a Silver World Medal at the 2001 New York Festivals, in the Education, Information, and Entertainment Category. The four-part series is also available on DVD. Order other ADB Children of Asia Video Series |
