Rebuilding Afghanistan
The rebuilding of Afghanistan after decades of conflict and a prolonged drought is a daunting challenge in which the Asian Development Bank is playing a lead role. Under an assistance program totaling over $610 million through 2004, ADB is helping the Government repair roads and power distribution; develop petroleum and gas resources; rehabilitate irrigation systems, rural primary schools and health clinics; and build capacity in the public sector. With such support from the international donor community, Afghanistan's prospects for peace have never been better. |
