Mainstreamed Managing for Development Results

ADB continues to make progress in implementing its managing for development results (MfDR) agenda.  In line with its revised action plan for 2006–2008 [ PDF ] approved by ADB Management in August 2006, MfDR is focused on three key pillars: supporting the capacity of developing member countries to manage for development results, enhancing ADB’s results orientation, and maintaining effective results partnerships.

Mainstreamed Managing for Development Results
1. Establish the Results Management Unit To establish a Results Management Unit (SPRU) under the Strategy and Policy Department that will implement the managing for development results (MfDR) action plan. Completed. SPRU became functional in February 2004.
2. Design and implement an action plan for Managing for Development Results
  • Design an action plan

To improve planning, monitoring and evaluation of operations in order to achieve and sustain the intended development results.

The revised action plan [ PDF ] rests on three pillars:

  • supporting the capacity of developing member countries to manage for development results
  • enhancing ADB’s results orientation
  • maintaining effective results partnerships
Completed. The MfDR initiative was adopted in 2004. A revised action plan for MfDR was adopted in August 2006.
  • Implement the action plan
  Being implemented. Implementation is expected to be completed by 2008.
3. Implement the Project Performance Management System (PPMS) action plan
  • Prepare an action plan
To sharpen the focus on results at the project level with the following outcomes:
  • reinforced quality assurance of design and monitoring frameworks (DMFs) and project performance reports (intradepartmental actions)
  • improved quality control of DMFs and project performance reports (interdepartmental/office action)
  • institutionalized responsibility for PPMS
  • increased level of competence in PPMS of all staff
Completed. The action plan was adopted in April 2004.
  • Implement the action plan
  Completed.  Implementation was completed in January 2006.  PPMS has been mainstreamed in ADB operations.
