Transport
Regional cooperation in developing transport infrastructure and
services takes advantage of economies of scale, helps reduce the
physical isolation of remote regions in Asia, promotes year-round
trade and travel in border regions, and opens new areas to development.
Border areas are frequently the poorer regions and building proper
infrastructure and promoting efficient competitive transport services
further helps reduce the poverty by promoting the mainstreaming
of isolated peoples. ADB is a driving force in financing or promoting
infrastructure for regional and subregional cooperation.
In addition to road building projects, ADB supports the development
policy of guidelines for reducing
vehicle emissions in Asia. We collate and disseminate information
on policies and actions that can be undertaken to
- reduce vehicle emissions
- share experiences among countries in the region especially relating
to the difficulties of implementing those policies and actions
and how they can be overcome
