About the South Pacific Subregional Office (SPSO)

On 18 June 2004, the South Pacific Subregional Office (SPSO) was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Fiji Islands, Hon. Mr. Qarase and President of the Asian Development Bank, Mr. Tadao Chino.

On Friday, 17 June 2005 SPSO celebrated its first anniversary with the opening of its public access information kiosk and launching its webpages in the effort to implement the ADB's Public Communication Policy.

SPSO significantly enhances ADB's capacity to implement the Pacific Strategy by providing greater outreach, improved responsiveness and increased opportunities for policy dialogue and problem solving.

ADB's Pacific Strategy is designed to respond to the priorities of the poor, by creating jobs through enhanced private sector development and improving access and quality of social services such as health, education, water supply and sanitation.

SPSO consults regularly with stakeholders to ensure its projects are relevant and efficient and implemented quickly.
