Opening of Lautoka Queen's Wharf Extension
Philip Erquiaga, Director General of the Pacific Department, participated in the official opening of the Lautoka Queens Wharf Extension, a component of the ADB-funded Ports Development Project in the Fiji Islands.
The wharf extension will help improve Fiji's competitiveness, expand trade, and enhance opportunities for private sector investment. Prior to the extension, the port has already seen increasing cargo loads and rising maritime traffic due to growing export volumes as well as imports to the hospitality sector. The project will also enhance environmental protection by reducing container traffic between Lautoka and Suva - the main land access artery - thus reducing congestion in the Nadi-Suva corridor.
