Environment Statistics
Significant
environmental degradation experienced in the recent decades has prompted for
the need for broad-based environmental management policy for each country. This
has necessitated the development of reliable environmental database and effective
ways to present and analyze environmental data to national planners and decision-makers.
Thus, there has been a growing need to collect and compile environment statistics
for informed decision-making as well as for monitoring environmental trends.
Between
1997 and 2002, ADB has provided assistance to eleven countries for developing
their environment statistics. A Handbook
on Environment Statistics, a manual on Development
of Environment Statistics, and a working paper on Environment
Statistics in Central Asia: Progress and Prospects have been produced
and published.
Visit our technical assistance page for more
information on the scope, coverage and other outputs of this project,
including country tables presenting
a compilation of common environmental indicators for the eleven participating
countries.
