- Training/Workshop and Technical Discussion on PPP Methodology and Compilation of Sub-national PPP
Philippines and Thailand
14 April 2009 and 21-22 May 2009
To further enhance the statistical capacity of our partner National Implementing Agencies, the ADB ICP Team with technical support from the World Bank conducted Training/Workshops on PPP Methodology and Compilation of Sub-National PPP with price statisticians of Bureau of Trade and Economic Indices (BTEI) of Thailand and the National Statistics office (NSO) of the Philippines. The activity is also in line with implementation of RETA 6482 - Improving Price Collection and Updating PPP Estimates for Selected DMCs with particular focus on the use of CPI data for rating up the capital city prices to national price levels. The training/workshops particularly aimed to develop expertise among BTEI and NSO staff on the PPP methodology and how they can be adopted in the development of their own Subnational PPPs which is useful for policy-making and will provide better cross-states analysis of economic or poverty level.
The Training/Workshop involved hands-on training on PPP concepts and methodologies where participants were given exercises on PPP estimation; intra-country and sub-national price validation; and in comparing prices at the sub national level using the principles, approaches, methodologies and frameworks of the ICP. On of the outputs of the Workshop are separate studies on the preliminary time series analysis of the price levels across states/regions in the Kingdom of Thailand and in the Philippines, respectively, using the PPP Approach. Presentation of the preliminary results and findings of the studies focused on Data Requirement; Estimation methodology; Major Results and Findings of the Study; Some Issues and Limitations; and some recommendation.
