Regional Cooperation and Integration

Free movement of people and goods across borders promotes economic growth by expanding trade of goods and job opportunities and encouraging the flow of ideas, innovation, and technology - critical components of sustained growth.

It is necessary to foster a common vision for development of transport logistics and trade facilitation across subregions. Since this is a complex process, over the long term, ADB will play the role of unbiased facilitator and enabler.

ADB's operations will concentrate on facilitating cross-border trade and developing multi-modal transport services. ADB will diversify into a wider spectrum of transport infrastructure and services – for example, improving border access roads and rail links, and devoting attention to policies that will bolster well-functioning markets in transport logistics and services.

Similarly, ADB promotes multimodal and corridor approaches to infrastructure and service improvement. At the same time, a regional regulatory framework will be developed, covering such issues as network planning and policies for road safety, vehicle emissions, and airspace management.
