Asian Development Outlook 2009 Update

Asian Development Outlook 2009 Update: Turkmenistan

The Update maintains inflation forecasts for 2009 and 2010 of 12.0% and 10.0%. The drop in global non-oil commodity prices gave rise to deflation pressures, which were partly offset by the increase in administered fuel prices and transportation costs.

The slowdown of gas exports will lower the trade surplus, and the Update revises down the current account surplus projections from 35.0% to 30.0% of GDP in 2009 and from 35.0% to 25.0% in 2010.

Reports
Turkmenistan and ADB
Turkmenistan became a member of the ADB in August 2000 but, as of end-2007, it has yet to receive country program funding as consultations are still ongoing on the development priorities of the Government, and ADB's potential role and assistance in programs and projects. It is classified as a Group C country, making it eligible for funding from ordinary capital resources.
